Questions SLPs and parents ask

What is CantaLingo?

CantaLingo makes targeted speech-practice songs for children ages 4–6. The child’s speech-language pathologist chooses the sound, and the family replays the assigned songs at home for carryover.

Which speech sounds do the songs target?

/R/, /S/, and /L/. The pilot library has 20 songs. Three public samples are on this page: two for /R/ and one for /S/.

How often do families practice at home?

At least 3 sessions each week. In the clinic, the SLP gives a probe of 8–10 words each week, before song exposure.

Who decides what the child practices?

The treating SLP. Clinical judgment stays with the SLP, who assigns the sound and level and changes the level when indicated.

Is there research on music for speech sound practice?

The evidence is promising but early. A 2023 systematic review found 8 studies; 7 reported better speech production, but only 1 had sufficient methodological quality. The CantaLingo pilot tests feasibility; it does not claim effectiveness.

Who created CantaLingo?

Jenna Endale, M.Ed.; Bruk Endale, M.D., a Harvard-trained neuroradiologist; and Dr. Carol Koch, EdD, CCC-SLP, ASHA Fellow, BCS-CL, MS-SLP Program Director and Professor at Oklahoma Baptist University, who provides protocol oversight.

How can a clinic join the pilot?

Use the pilot request form in the Next step chapter. The complete 20-song library is reserved for participating clinics.
